Hockey Jharkhand not to participate in Olympic Association meeting

Jamshedpur: Hockey Jharkhand today directed its affiliated district committees not to take part in a meeting convened by the Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) in connection with formation of Hockey Jharkhand.

Describing the meeting convened by JOA on March 16 at Ranchi as "unconstitutional", Pir Mohammad, general secretary of Hockey Jharkhand, in a press statement here today stated that a letter in this regard sent to Hockey Jharkhand by JOA on February 23 was received by it today, which was in itself a mockery as the letter has taken over a fortnight's time to reach its destination.

Bengal to play Jharkhand in final

GUWAHATI, March 7 – Fancied West Bengal will take on Jharkhand in the title clash of the second East Zone Cricket Tournament for Deaf at the Latasil playground here tomorrow.

In the last league matches played today, both Bengal and Jharkhand posted victories against Orissa and Assam respectively by an identical margin of seven wickets. Assam were all out for 75 in 19.3 overs and in reply Jharkhand reached the target losing three wickets.

In the other match, Orissa were restricted to 62 by Bengal and scored 67 in just 9.3 overs for three.

Olympian blames incompetent officials behind hocky crisis

JAMSHEDPUR: Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in Indian hockey, former Olympian Harbhajan Singh on Sunday blamed few incompetent officials for the present crisis that the national game is finding itself in.

"These officials hardly had anything to do with sports activities but grabbed the top posts to fulfil their own interests," Singh said.

Pramanik seriously injured

Asian Games gold medallist runner Pinky Pramanik was seriously injured in a road accident near Suisa village, about 70 km from Purulia in West Bengal. Pinky was returning home at Bagmundi village after inaugurating the Purulia Athletics Championship when her car collided with a lorry. She is undergoing treatment at the Tata hospital in Jamshedpur, police said. “Pinky’s condition remains very critical,” hospital sources said.

Karnataka joined Jharkhand in the semifinals of the 46th Dr. B.C. Roy Trophy, but only after a clarification on rules from the AIFF.

The AIFF's intervention was needed after Jharkhand, Karnataka and Punjab were all tied on six points after two wins and a loss each in their Quarterfinal Group A in Mandya, Karnataka.

As per the situation Jharkhand had 4:1 goals with a goal difference of +3, Karnataka had 5:3 and +2; while Punjab had 4:2 and +2.

Archers sweat it out to compete in the Commonwealth Games

Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Dec 6(ANI): Indian archers are undergoing extensive training at the Tata Archery Centre in Jamshedpur to compete in the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in the national capital.

The prospective champion archers are training for nearly ten hours a day under the watchful eyes of their coach, Dharmendra Tiwari.

The coach has been meticulously conducting the practice sessions by recording the trainees’ day-to-day performance.
