Students and office-goers were armed with X-ray plates and special filter glasses, but all in vain. The sun was barely visible in the sky and most had to be satisfied with watching the spectacle live on TV.

Ram Sevak Sharma, an IAS officer of the 1978 batch, was asked to meet Nandan M Nilekani at New Delhi’s Maurya Sheraton hotel after two days. He was elated to learn he had been selected to work with none other than the co-founder of IT services powerhouse Infosys at the National Unique Identification Authority of India (NUIAI), which the software czar heads.

Siliguri partners caught in piracy net

KOLKATA, INDIA: Dealers across Siliguri are accusing Microsoft of using unethical marketing techniques to sell its products and threating dealers across the region with dire consequences.

In a similar situation in Jamshedpur just two months back, Microsoft had allegedly raided the offices of channel partners. Now the software major has taken its anti-piracy drive to Siliguri where it is allegedly forcing partners to sell unrealistic targets. Dealers say that if they were refusing to meet the specified targets Microsoft was threatening them with legal action.

Science Day to get bigger this Feb

Jamshedpur, Jan. 27: National Science Day is set to get bigger and better this year. Reason: the Union government has decided to bear the cost of celebrations partially.

Constituent colleges of Ranchi University (RU) are preparing to observe National Science Day — celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of scientist C.V. Raman — on February 28. And the theme for the year is exposing horizons of science.

A few colleges in the city have planned events for the entire week.

Indian IT crosses $50 billion: Dataquest

Indian IT market is growing very well. Current survey from DataQuest has revealed a 35% plus growth. This seems to be good trend. In my opinion - 2007, and 2008 is going to have even better results. Lets wait and watch.

NEW DELHI: The sunrise Indian IT industry recorded a growth of 32 per cent in rupee terms, in fiscal 2006-`07, to cross the $50 billion mark, according to a survey by Dataquest magazine. The industry growth in dollar terms was at 30 per cent.

India's biggest uranium processing plant inaugurated

JAMSHEDPUR: The country's biggest uranium processing plant was inaugurated by Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar at Turamdih on the outskirts of the steel city here.

The Rs 350-crore plant, built under Uranium Corporation of India Limited's (UCIL) ongoing uranium augmentation programme, was the second processing plant of UCIL, a PSU under the Department of Atomic Energy.

The plant has uranium ore processing capacity of 3,000 tonne per day.

The uranium ore extracted from its underground Turamdih and Mohuldih as well as open cast mine at Banduhurang will be processed at the new plant.
