Congress urges governor to ask Jharkhand to update below poverty line list

Senior Congress leader PN Singh today urged governor MOH Farooq to direct the departments concerned to immediately update the list of the people living below the poverty level in the face of severe drought in Jharkhand.

"Cards of different categories earmarked for the BPL people have not yet been issued. The governor should immediately initiate steps in this regard in the drought-hit state," AICC leader PN Singh said in a press release here.

Lalu fomenting tension in society: BJP leader

BJP warns against demolition of temples in Jharkhand

With 39 religious structures in Ranchi reportedly getting notice for alleged encroaching, BJP today said it would strongly oppose any move to demolish any structure by the district administration.

"Several priests have received notice from the district administration that their temples would be demolished. The BJP warns against any move to demolish temples will be met with stiff resistance," BJP’s state unit spokesperson Sanjay Seth told a news conference in Ranchi.

JMM demands Jharkhand assembly polls

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha today demanded dissolution of the state assembly and pave way for elections along with Bihar, barely ten months after the state went to the polls.

"President's rule is no substitute for popular government. One cannot rule the state sitting from New Delhi," JMM-LP leader Hemant Soren told a news conference in Ranchi.

"JMM is ready for polls. Let the elections be held along with Bihar," Soren said.

Relations Sour between Cong & JVM(P) in Jharkhand

With relations souring between allies Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric) and the Congress, the JVM(P) today announced that it would contest all the seats in the state as and when the assembly elections were here.

"We are readying ourselves to contest all the 81 seats, because the Congress has not been heeding to our demand for dissolution of the House and calling elections," JVM(P)'s Principal General Secretary Pradip Kumar Yadav told a press conference here.
