Under the international students’ exchange programme, 44 B-school students — a sharp spike compared to 13 students last year and nine the year before — will visit 18 European universities and institutes in United Kingdom, Germany, France and Belgium for a three-month term. In fact, partner universities and institutes have also increased this year — last year, it was five and the year before, three.

Steel minister backs ban on iron ore export

MANGALORE: The state government's move to ban export of iron ores and allowing its use for manufacture of value added products found a strong backer in Atul Chaturvedi, secretary, Union ministry of steel.

The ministry for long has been advocating the need to ban export of ore in its raw form, and permit for the same in inevitable circumstances by imposing deterrent duties, forcing exporters to rather focus on value addition with the ore.

Jamshedpur (The Pioneer, Aug 7): With an aim to promote the leadership development in the health sector, the premier B-school XLRI is conducting a two-day workshop for public health professionals dealing in reproductive health.

The Appreciative Assessment and Reinforcement Workshop, started on Friday, is being held with the support of the David and Lucile- Packard Foundation for the past participants of this inittiative. The two jointly began work on the issue of Leadership Development for Reproductive Health Professionals in 2009.

SAIL lines up Rs 1,500 crore for domestic coal mines

NEW DELHI: The country’s largest steelmaker SAIL will invest Rs 1,500 crore to develop its domestic coking coal mines as it looks to reduce dependence on the import of the key input that has been a prime cause of volatility in steel prices.

The company will develop new coking mines in Jharkhand that will produce close to 5 million tonnes of coking coal, reducing imports by over 20%.

Hyderabad, Aug 4 : Apollo Hospitals Group has announced its partnership with XLRI Jamshedpur to conduct management programmes for Apollo’s practicing managers.

Apollo Hospitals Group Executive Director (Operations) Sangita Reddy and XLRI Jamshedpur Director Fr E Abraham S J have signed the MoU yesterday to mark the partnership at Apollo Health City here.

13 hurt in clash at Bokaro Steel Plant

At least 13 people were injured Friday as residents protesting the expansion plans of the Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand clashed with security personnel, police said.

The Bokaro Steel Plant, under its expansion plan, was constructing a boundary wall and gate to protect its area near Addakyari in Bokaro district, some 130 km from Ranchi.

But 348 families reside in Addkyari illegally. When officials of the steel plant tried to put up a gate near the boundary wall, around 500 residents came out in protest against the move.
