Tele-meters fail, JSEB claims no loss

Jamshedpur, Nov. 17: Introduced almost a year ago, tele-meters were aimed at giving quick data on meter-reading and also checking power theft. Though the mechanism failed to record power consumption, the board claims to have made no losses.

The tele-meters have failed to bring desired results from as many as 100 industrial units in Adityapur. The latest technology uses SIM cards that are fixed on industrial meters. This helps officials at the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) head-quarters in Ranchi to monitor electricity consumption and meter-reading.

India Considering Industry-Specific Measures to Counter Crunch

Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- India is considering industry- specific steps to help companies counter the impact of a global financial crisis as Asia's third-biggest economy slows.

``We are looking at sectors which require special attention. I am open to adopt fiscal measures depending upon the need of each sector,'' Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said at a press conference in New Delhi today. Import taxes on some steel items and crude soybean oil were reimposed today to protect domestic producers.

Maruti Suzuki To Increase Head Count

(RTTNews) - India's biggest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India is planning to increase its head count and aims a total staff strength of 7,350 by the end of the year, reported PTI.

The company plans to fortify its research and development strength to 1,000 by 2010, the report added quoting Maruti Suzuki India or MSI Managing Executive Officer Administration S Y Siddiqui.

MSI has a head count of 7,200 at present. Impacted by the industry's slowdown, Tata Motors recently disengaged 700 temporary workers at its Jamshedpur plant.

Maruti to go ahead with hiring plans despite slowdown

New Delhi: Unperturbed by the slowdown, the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India is going ahead with its hiring plans and expects to have a total headcount of 7,350 by the end of this year.
“We plan to take the total employee strength to 7,350 by the year end with the addition of 60 to 70 employees,” Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) managing executive officer administration (human resource,finance and IT) S Y Siddiqui said.

Onions bring tears, shoppers feel price pinch

Ranchi, Nov. 12: The onion is making people cry, not with its potent enzymes, but with its steep price that has doubled in the past couple of days.

Vegetable vendors in the state blame supporters of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), headed by Raj Thackeray, for the hike. Due to anti-north Indian disruptions sweeping across Maharashtra and counter-agitation in other states, communication lines — roads and national highways — have been disrupted leading to transportation problems of the vegetables.

JITA to Organize Next Trade Show in Early 2009

Soren remark irks traders

Jamshedpur, Nov. 11: Resentment is brewing among traders and industrialists of the steel city over the recent remarks made by chief minister Shibu Soren against Tata Steel.

The chief minister, while addressing a public gathering at Gopal Maidan on Sunday, alleged that the steel major was not fulfilling its social obligations. He had also attacked present officials of the company for their anti-people stand.

The traders claim that such statement against the company would deter prospective investors to set up their establishments in the state in future.

XLRI to raise money for Entrepreneurship Trust

Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) (PTI): XLRI School for Business and Human Resources here will organise a run to raise money for "The XLRI Social Entreprenurship Trust" on November 16.

Prof Madhukar Shukla said 300 students of XLRI and exchange students from five B-schools in France, Germany, Philippines and Sweden, will take part in the event.

The foreign B-school students were spending one term at XLRI, he said.
