Jamshedpur, May 20: Bucking the state trend, boys outperformed girls in the ICSE and ISC examinations in the steel city.
A majority of the highest scorers, was boys. About 6,000 students appeared for the exams from Jamshedpur in 2009 and the pass rate was cent per cent. Most of the city schools put up a commendable show, even bettering last year’s performance.
Rahul Agarwal of Sri Krishna Public School topped the ICSE examinations in the city, with a staggering 98.7 per cent. The second position was shared by Nishi Anand and Adarsh Thakur of Carmel Junior College and Loyola School, respectively. The two secured 98.2 per cent.
In ISC, Ankit Mahto of DBMS English School topped the science list with 97.75 per cent. The second and third positions, respectively, were also bagged by DBMS students, Paramjit Singh and Shrenik Jain, who got 97.25 and 96.75 per cent, respectively.
In the commerce stream, the highest, 96.75 per cent, was secured by Swati Agiwal of Loyola School while the second place went to Harshita Ramakrishnan (96.25 per cent) of Sacred Heart Convent.
Another students of Sacred Heart, Khushboo Ekka, stood first in arts with 94.5 per cent followed by Loyola School’s Indrani Dasgupta (94.25 per cent).
“The results are satisfactory. Jamshedpur has always been in the forefront in education,” said Father Victor Misquith, the co-ordinator of ICSE schools in the city.
Students started pouring into the cyber cafes from 9am though the results were declared at 11am. However, schools faced some difficulty as they could access the website only after 11.30am.
