Jamshedpur , Jun 29 Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay today said he favoured fresh assembly election in Jharkhand to provide it a clean and stable government.
The impressive mandate in favour of Congress in Lok Sabha polls was because of its"good"work during the last five years, said Sahay at his felicitation by partymen here.
"If Congress could form a stable government at the Centre, why can&apost it do it in Jharkhand?"said the union food processing minister.
Admitting that Congress had tasted both sweet and sour by supporting the UPA government in Jharkhand, he said the party weakened during this period.
In Lok Sabha polls, Congress fared well in almost all the states in the country except Jharkhand where it managed only one seat while BJP bagged eight of the total 14 seats.
However, the overall mandate in its favour has rejuvenated party workers, Sahay said and expressed confidence that Congress would regain lost ground and improve its performance in Jharkhand.
To a query about UPA constituents&aposattempt to form a government in Jharkhand, Sahay said senior leaders authorised to take a decision in this regard are out of the country.
President&aposs rule in Jharkhand expires in the third week of July and the term of the present assembly, now in suspended animation, ends in March-April next year.
