New Delhi (PTI) The process of government formation in Jharkhand on Tuesday gained momentum with the state leaders of the Congress and JMM holding parleys throughout the day to thrash out a formula for forming a UPA government.
AICC in-charge of the state K. Keshav Rao met JMM chief Shibu Soren early in the day to explore the possibility of a new government in the tribal state.
Mr. Rao later met Ahmed Patel, political secretary to the Congress President, along with the group of Congress MLAs who claimed they had letters of support of 40 MLAs.
The effective strength of the Jharkhand Assembly at present is 73 and the support of 37 MLAs is required for formation of a government.
After meeting Mr. Patel, a state leader said that there were positive signals from the Congress leadership for government formation.
"In democracy, government formation is the key to an effective rule," the MLA said, who has been camping in the national capital for a week to impress the central leadership of the need for the party to form a government.
He said they have been asked to talk to the MLAs and sort out the contentious matters before a final view is taken.
Jharkhand PCC chief Pradeep Balmuchu, CLP leader Manoj Yadav and senior leader from the state Niyal Tirkey are in the forefront of the fresh move for government formation in the state where the Assembly is under suspended animation and the state under President's rule for the last over five months.
