JOA chief flays JSCA president over FIRs

Jamshedpur, June 29: The FIR controversy in the Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) took a turn with its president pointing fingers at a senior IPS officer for playing a vital role in lodging complaints against two office-bearers of the apex sports body in the state.

Without naming the officer, JOA president R.K. Anand alleged that the Ranchi-based police officer was instrumental in facilitating the FIRs against Syed Matloob Hashmi and M.K. Pathak, the JOA secretary-general and treasurer, respectively.

Anand was in the city to meet officials of Jamshedpur-based sports associations ahead of of the 34th National Games.

“There’s no embezzlement of funds in the JOA. The police officer wanted to enter the JOA from backdoor,” he said, adding the officer was not even a JOA member. “In fact, he is not in the National Games Organising Committee, but is keen to enter the JOA through Garhwa District Sports Association,” he said.

The senior JOA functionary also said that the police officer had also tried to inform the JOA office-bearers the way he had wrested control of the state cricket body. Amitabh Choudhary, the police officer and president of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, said: “It is below my dignity to respond to observations made by someone punished by Delhi High Court.”
