Ranchi: Trouble for suspended Jharkhand Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nirmal A Chaudhary, does not seem to be over.
Following the Supreme Court’s notice to for her misbehavior with a judge of the Banglore-based Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), BV Rao, who was here on an official tour, the Ranchi bench of CAT asked the police to frame charges against Chaudhary and eight other police personnel in the case.
It may be recalled that Chaudhary, a 1985 batch IPS officer, had called Rao, who was staying at the Khukhri guesthouse of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) of Ranchi, a terrorist and asked the police personnel at her disposal to beat him up. The incident dates back to February 21, 2008.
Taking suo motto congnisance of the matter, the Supreme Court had in August 2008 asked the Jharkhand High Court and the CAT to dispose off the case by holding regular trial.
Chaudhary went into hiding soon after the Ranchi bench of CAT ordered her arrest last year. Subsequently, the state government placed the IG under suspension for evading the arrest and sent her to the Ranchi Institute of Neuro-psychiatry and Applied Sciences (RINPAS), Kanke, for treatment of her mental condition.
Sensing the trouble, Chaudhary had offered unconditional apology for the incident before the CAT. However, the court rejected the plea for apology and asked the police to frame the charges against her.
