Jamshedpur Women's College to introduce Campus Radio

Jamshedpur Women's College (JWC) - an autonomous institute under Kolhan University, will be starting campus radio. For the first time a state run college will be starting campus radio. Campus radio will spread the edicational programmes in around 20 km of radius through All India Radio.

Campus radio is a concept of the Union information and broadcasting ministry that promotes colleges to have campus radio. "About six months ago, we had applied with the ministry for seeking licence to introduce campus radio but initially we failed to qualify. However, our second attempt went off successfully," said JWC principal Shukla Mohanty.

Various programmes such as local news, campus sports along with general music would feature daily on the campus radio. "It's a good initiative to develop a sense of empowerment among girl students," said Anuradha Dev, a former commerce graduate of JWC.
