Jamshedpur, June 30: It’s a tried and tested formula of sport and entertainment. Only this time the setting is the Mecca of cricket — The Lords — and city boy Rajdeep Chatterjee is part of the extravaganza.
A former Indian Idol contestant, Rajdeep is now gearing up to perform before a packed audience in London during the British Asia Cup scheduled on July 6, as Rajasthan Royals, winners of the first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) take on Middlesex Panthers, winners of the English Twenty20 Cup.
The one-off game has been organised by one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world — Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) — to raise funds for the British Asian Trust, part of the charity run by Prince of Wales.
Walking the IPL path of mixing cricket and entertainment, the match will be followed by performances by Bollywood stars, including Shilpa Shetty, who now commands a loyal fan following in London.
Rajdeep has been roped in as part of the show, billed as a celebration of Indian and English cricket, where he will be performing for Sony BMG.
“I can feel the goosebumps. Being both a singer and a cricket lover, I can’t explain what the Lords means to me. I have performed in Kuwait and Bangladesh before, but performing in London will be an experience of a lifetime. I just can’t wait,” said Rajdeep, who will leave for Mumbai tomorrow before heading to London.
He is also excited to see international cricket stars at an unusual match. The event will also be special, as it is believed to be Shane Warne’s last appearance at the Lords.
“But it will be tough to live up to the expectations of an international audience. I will give my best, but I hope the audience accepts me. Bollywood is now international and people know about the industry but I am still new and am trying to get used to the glamour,” he said.
Rajdeep’s success at the Indian Idol has helped him bag many concerts. After London, he will set off for a 45-day tour to the United States and then to Canada.http://www.telegraphindia.com/1090701/jsp/jharkhand/story_11181275.jsp
