New Delhi, June 30 Efforts to hammer out a consensus on formation of Jharkhand government today failed at a meeting between AICC general secretary in-charge for Jharkhand K. Keshava Rao and JMM chief Sibu Soren here.
Rao had a 30-minute meeting with Soren at the JMM leader&aposs residence where MLAs belonging to both the parties were present.
"We are discussing the issue. We are seeking the opinion of everyone,"Rao told reporters after the meeting.
Soren has already indicated that he is personally not in favour of conceding the Chief Minister&aposs post to any other party as JMM with 17 MLAs is the largest UPA party in the 82-member state assembly. Jharkhand is now under President&aposs rule.
At the same time, he has maintained that since Congress is the largest party in the UPA at the Centre, it should take a decision.
Regarding demands by a section for projection of a non-tribal Chief Minister, Soren said,"traditions should continue."So far only tribal Chief Ministers have ruled the state since it was formed in 2000.
Congress leaders from the state have submitted to Rao a letter signed by 40 MLAs expressing their desire to form a government and left it to senior UPA leaders to decide the name of the chief minister.
