Ranchi, June 23: The Central University of Jharkhand has begun the admission process in various courses and will start distribution of forms from Thursday.
While the last date for collecting forms is July 15, candidates can submit them latest by July 20. “The classes for the first batch of the new university will kick off from August 3,” said Ankush Bhiyan, the officer on special duty of the university.
As a final decision regarding the campus of the new university is still to be taken — either in Ranchi or Jamshedpur — the authorities want to make the same clear to the candidates in the very beginning. Officials said the application forms to be issued by the university would, therefore, ask students to state to be “considered” only if the campus is located in Ranchi or only if the campus is located in Jamshedpur or either of the two places.
Earlier, its vice-chancellor D.T. Khathing had already secured the UGC approval to begin the five-year integrated courses in mass communication, English, business administration and mathematics. Candidates would join after 10+2 and come out with master’s degree after five years.
In a further development, the university has also recognised the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) qualification as equivalent to 10+2 of Indian boards, thereby allowing such certificate holders to pursue courses offered by it. Khathing has issued a letter of approval for CIE certificates, thus giving the certificate holders access to bachelor’s degree programmes at the university.
“The decision of the university will ease the progress of Cambridge students to the university,” said Priya Soni, an official of University of Cambridge, India region.
Students with CIE qualifications wanting to pursue their engineering and medical degrees with the central university, however, are required to obtain advanced level passes in physics, chemistry, mathematics or biology and English.
University of Cambridge conducts an international exam for students between 14 and 19 years, which is equivalent to the qualifications offered by International General Certificate Secondary Education (IGCSE) offered by the UK. The CIE certificate can be secured by students of Indian schools also by sitting for this examination conducted by Cambridge University.
“As a number of schools offering IGCSE and CIE programmes are increasing in India, the decision of the university will help students pursue these courses here,” Soni said.
Soni said that the University of Cambridge International Examinations is the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 14-19 years olds. This apart, it also offers professional qualifications to teachers and vocational qualifications for adult learners. The examinations are taken in 150 countries and are recognised by several universities and institutions across the world.
