CBSE results bring cut off relief

Jamshedpur, May 22: The anxious hours of wait for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students came to an end with the declaration of the Class XII results today.

Along with them, hours after the results appeared on the Internet this morning, students of ICSE schools heaved a sigh of relief.

For, the overall performance of CBSE students, though impressive, was not astounding. Students of other boards feel that this will keep the cut off marks within a reasonable limit.

In Jamshedpur, girls fared better than boys. G. Vignesh of Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya topped in science with 95 per cent, while Rakesh Kumar Agarwal of DAV Public School, Bistupur, got the highest in commerce (90.8 per cent). None of the CBSE schools here has arts faculty.

Though a few students complained that they had expected better results, most schools said the results were satisfactory. However, economics and engineering drawing (optional paper) results could have been better, they said. “I am satisfied with the overall performance of my students but the marks in economics should have been higher. However, the overall results in the city have improved,” said Pragya Singh, the principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur.

Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, DAV Public School and St Mary’s English School students managed to retain the top three positions in all the streams. According to students, maths (95) has been the highest scoring subject followed by physics (95) and chemistry (99). In commerce, the highest scoring subject has been business studies (95).

Front-ranking examinees said they were satisfied with their performance. “I am pretty happy. I think I have got what I expected. It is not just studies but sports that helped me win my place. I am just waiting for the joint entrance results,” said G. Vignesh.

Soumee Bhattacharya of St Mary’s English School, with 94.8 per cent, is happy, too. “I divided my time between my board exam studies and preparing for my engineering entrances,” she said.

DAV Public School has the highest number of students who scored above 90 per cent marks. Rakesh Kumar Agarwal, who wants to study chartered accountancy, echoed her.

Vidya Bharati principal Vipin Sharma said: “I am happy but I think the marks in commerce could have been better.”
