RANCHI: The core committee of the state BJP comprising former Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy and national secretary Kiran Ghai reviewed the
party's performance in recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
However, two seats - Palamu and Chatra - on which the party entered into understanding with the JD(U) and the alliance lost both were not reviewed. The meeting was attended by state BJP president Raghuvar Das and Dhanbad MP, PN Singh besides other members of the core committee.
Later talking to the media, Ghai said the party was ready for the assembly elections and hopeful of continuing with the winning spree. "We were successful in Jharkhand because of anti-incumbency factor, proper booth management and effective role of the party as a strong opposition in state," she said.
Admitting that there were some lapses in case of the Ranchi seat where the party lost against Congress candidate, Ghai said overconfidence of the workers led to stagnancy in efforts.
"We could have bagged the Ranchi seat as well but calculations went wrong somewhere and the party workers became complacent," she said.
Unwilling to comment on the differences between BJP and JD(U) that emerged during the elections, Ghai refused to comment on reasons for losing Palamu and Chatra seats.
"The seats were given to the JD(U) and it is up to them to go into the reasons for the defeat," she said. When asked if BJP would field candidates in all 81 seats in the forthcoming assembly elections, she maintained that the NDA was an alliance and these decisions would be taken by central leaders of the alliance partners. "There are differences in every big family and we cannot rule out certain differences among the BJP and JD(U) leaders here. But the alliance is performing well in Bihar and also at the national level," she added.
Acknowledging the need for immediate elections in Jharkhand she said the party workers were euphoric after the victory in Lok sabha elections.
