BJP denies caste slur, but warns of penalty

Ranchi, June 29: BJP national secretary Kiran Ghai today firmly denied that her party was promoting caste-based politics in Jharkhand. She said that the BJP high command would take stern measures if any leader was found indulging in casteism.

In the recent past, state unit BJP chief Raghubar Das had come under the scanner on several occasions for allegedly promoting the leaders of his own community — Vaisya. In fact, he also faced the wrath of party members for granting Rajya Sabha tickets to leaders belonging to the Vaisya community.

“No one has lodged any complaint with me. But let me clarify that the BJP has never indulged in casteism. The party high command will take stern action if such complaints are found to be true,” she added.

Ghai was here to review her party’s performances during the recently held Lok Sabha elections and also to discuss effective ways and means to fight out the new challenges ahead. She was accompanied by BJP spokesman Rajeev Pratap Rudy.

“Such review meetings are being held in every state. I will compile the report on Jharkhand. Accordingly, we will work out measures to strengthen the party organisation in the next couple of months. After all, we are also gearing up for the Assembly elections in Jharkhand,” she added.

Ghai further said that despite having failed to perform well at the national level in the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP gained significantly in Jharkhand.

Replying to another question, she said that the central leaderships of the BJP and JD(U) were analysing the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections.

“The issue of seat-sharing with JD(U) for the Assembly election will be finalised in Delhi. All I can say at this moment is that the BJP has a fair chance of coming back to power in Jharkhand,” she added.

Ghai said the Assembly elections in Jharkhand should be held with the Maharashtra polls in April next year. “I fail to understand why the UPA MLAs are rushing to Delhi to form an alternative government. If they have the desired support in the Assembly, they should approach the governor,” she said.
