HAZARIBAG: Hazaribag SP Pankaj Kamboj on Thursday suspended 14 policemen on charges of dereliction of duty. Ranchi SSP Praveen Kumar Singh had
sent a report to Kamboj against the errant policemen who defied norms during the production of dreaded criminal Anil Sharma in the Jharkhand High Court in Ranchi.
Briefing the media, Hazaribag DSP (headquarters) Naushad Alam said on Thursday that Sharma, who is currently lodged in the Hazaribag Central Jail, was taken to Ranchi on Wednesday as the Jharkhand High Court had sought his production in connection with some case.
Stating that the suspensions will take place from an immediate effect, the DSP said that the 14 policemen, who escorted Sharma to Ranchi, allowed the criminal to speak to his wife and close associates on their cellphones in gross contravention of the rules. That apart, they also allowed Sharma to move freely outside the Jharkhand High Court.
The officer said that even during their journey from Hazaribag to Ranchi, the escorting policemen allowed Sharma to have meal in a roadside dhaba under the Ormanjhi police station of the Ranchi district.
After learning about the serious lapses on part of the 14 policemen, the Ranchi SSP immediately sent a report to the Hazaribag SP who not only suspended them but also ordered departmental proceedings against them.
Alam said that the escorting policemen were told in clear terms that Sharma should not be given any leeway during his visit to Ranchi since he had once escaped from police custody and could be arrested after hectic efforts from New Delhi where he was enjoying a lavish party in a posh hotel.
