A leading entrepreneur and visionary, Late P.N. Kamani, in 1986, founded NARBHERAM HANSRAJ ENGLISH SCHOOL, a predominant temple of learning in the heart of Jamshedpur. He dreamt of large institutions to provide education to the children of the Gujarati community and the society at large. He wanted to give them a good start early in life and become professionally competent in future. They were to imbibe the qualities of honesty, integrity & respect for humanity and also to nurture the spark of patriotism in their hearts. The school curriculum is modeled to achieve these goals while meeting the rapid global changes. The institution has already made commendable progress in its sixteen years of existence.
Following the sudden demise of Mr. P.N Kamani in 1989, Mr. Nakul D Kamani, who heads the Kamani conglomerate and is a visionary and philanthropist in his own right, took over the reins of the school. He continues to be the President and CEO of the school.
A Management Committee comprising eminent persons of the city, headed by Mr. Nakul D. Kamani, manages the school. The Principal, who is assisted by a Vice Principal, manages the day-to-day activities including academics and extra-curricular activities. The Management Representative is responsible for the developmental activities & maintaining quality in the school system There is also an Executive Committee comprising eminent citizens, parents’ representatives and a staff representative, functioning as an advisory body.
The school is justifiably proud of its exemplary track record. The I.C.S.E & I.S.C. results have been almost 100% all through. The students participate in literary and cultural activities; quiz competitions, sports and games, at local, national and international levels and perform commendably, winning prizes. Graduating students enter prestigious higher education institutions around the country. Everywhere these students get immediate recognition in personal, professional and social fields.
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination New Delhi. Students are provided effective training; beginning from Lower KG to Std 12, to appear in the examinations conducted in Std 10 & Std 12. There are presently 1700 students who are nurtured and cared for by about 60 teachers. The average c1ass strength is 42 and the teacher - student ratio is 1:27.
In addition, there are 10 Non-Teaching staff, 19 Support Staff to meet the infrastructure requirements adequately. The school also has arrangements with the Shavak Nanavati Technical Institute (SNTI) and the Center for Excellence (CFE) where teachers and students access the Library for additional information.
Opportunities are provided for all students to participate in sports and games literary, cultural and social activities. They participate in Inter- School activities and win laurels for the school. Children play a variety of other games. The TATA Steel Adventure Foundation assists the school in providing training in activities like mountain trekking, hill climbing, river rafting and other ‘water sports.
