The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will honour 45 workers with 33 prestigious Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for the year 2004 at Vigyan Bhawan in the capital on Friday (April 27, 2007). They will be decorated with Shram Bhushan, Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana and Shram Shree/Shram Devi awards in recognition of their distinguished performances, innovative abilities, outstanding contribution in the field of productivity and exhibition of exceptional courage and presence of mind. These workers are employed in the Departmental Undertakings & Public Sector Undertakings of the Central and State Governments and Private Sector Units employing 500 workers or more.
The Private Sector, for the first time, has been brought within the ambit of Prime Minister’s Shram Awards’ Scheme. Also, the number of awards has been increased from 17 to 33. 29 awardees are from the public sector while 16 workers belong to the private sector. Some of them have bagged the awards jointly. No nomination was found suitable for the top most prestigious honour Shram Ratna Award but in lieu of Shram Ratna/Shram Bhushan Awards three additional Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana awards and one additional Shram Shree/Shram Devi Awards are being given.
Shri S.P. Gupta, Chargeman in BHEL, Haridwar. has been conferred with the second highest Shram Bhushan Award. It carries a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000/- and a ‘Sanad’. Fifteen nominees have been selected for Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana Awards. They include two women workers who have been awarded Shram Veerangana Awards. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs. 60,000/- and a ‘Sanad’.
The Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana Awardees are: Shri Satyawan Nayak, Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai; Shri M. Subramanian, BHEL, Tiruchirapalli; Shri M. Sudhakar Reddy, BHEL, Hyderabad; a team comprising S/Shri Bihari Lal Dhruw & Sunil Kumar Soni (jointly), from BHEL, Bhopal; Shri Mahi Pal Singh, BHEL, Haridwar; a team comprising S/Shri A.K. Kerketta & Trilochan Maharana (jointly), from Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai; Smt. Valluripalli Vijayalakshmi, DRDL, Hyderabad, DRDO (all from the public sector); Shri Kartik Kumar Mandal, TISCO, Jamshedpur; Shri Birajdar Prakash Vishvanath, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Aurangabad; Shri Chavan Subhash Ramdas, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Pune; Shri Kadam Vijay Bhikaji, Larsen & Toubro, Mumbai; Shri Sushil Kumar, Tata Motors Ltd, Lucknow; Shri Ram Kailash, Hindalco Ltd, Sonebhadra; Shri Mahadik Sampatrao Bhagawan, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Aurangabad; Mrs. Jaswant Kaur, TISCO, Jamshedpur (all from the private sector).
Seventeen Workers will be conferred with Shram Shree/Shram Devi Awards. Among them are four women workers who would be decorated with Shram Devi Awards. Each of these awards carries a cash prize of Rs. 40,000/- and a ‘Sanad’. Although the number of Shram Shree/Shram Devi Awards is sixteen as per the scheme, one additional award would be given in lieu of Shram Bhushan Award.
