Jamshedpur, Sep 11, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- SFUTF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- India might be a back-bencher in world football, but there is no reason why country's players can't compete with their international counterparts if the talents are tapped and nurtured in proper manner, feels Ron Reid, coach of Sheffield United Football Club Academy (SUFCA).
"There is no reason why Indian footballers, if nurtured at the right age, cannot compete and come at par with the international players," Reid, who is also manager of the academy said here today.
The coach, who was in the city to conduct training sessions for players of Tata Football Academy (TFA), emphasised on "the ABC of football" which he thinks could bring the difference.
"The ABC of football -- agility, balance and co-ordination is the key to become a successful footballer. It is extremely essential to nurture potential footballers at the young age of 10 so that their talent can be groomed and developed to become professionals at par with international standards," Reid said.
Reid's visit to Jamshedpur was primarily to assess the training provided at TFA and chart out a way to initiate common knowledge sharing platforms between players and coaches of SUFCA and TFA, which would be a step towards the proposed tie-up between the two academies.
