Bhubaneswar , Jan 4 Unfazed by global economic crisis, Tata Steel today said it would undertake fullscale construction of its proposed greenfield project at Orissa&aposs Kalinga Nagar shortly on priority basis.
"We are sure to take up construction work for the steel plant at Kalinga in fullscale in this year. We will not lag behind in translating the promise into reality," Tata Steel Managing Director B Muthuraman said here.
Asserting that the Kalinga Nagar project, envisaging a capacity of six million tonne per annum, would be unaffected by the global meltdown, Muthuraman said that Tata Steel accords top priority to the proposed plant along with expansion of its unit at Jamshedpur.
The company has already procured equipment and machineries from countries like Germany and China for the plant proposed to be set up with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore, he said on the sidelines of inauguration of global development centre of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) here.
Maintaining that the proposed steel plant would generate over 10,000 jobs, Muthuraman said Tata group would always remain an active partner in Orissa&aposs journey towards progress and prosperity.
Though Tata Steel signed the MoU with Orissa government way back in 2004 for setting up its plant in Kalinga nagar industrial complex at Duburi in Jajpur district, little progress could be made due to opposition from people.
However, company officials claimed that considerable progress had been achieved in resolving differences with local people and it was only a matter of time before the project was made operational. PTI SKN SUS
