The Steel City of India

Feb. date for masterplan

The steel city master plan would be made public at a workshop to be held on February 12.

Officials of Superior Global, an US-based agency, assigned the job of chalking the plan, said its “vision statement” would be discussed by members of a steering committee along with the plan’s goals and policies. The committee has been constituted especially for this purpose and is being headed by East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Nitin Madan Kulkarni.

“The vision statement would cover topics such as infrastructure and development and deal with drinking water, electricity and other civic amenities,” said a representative of Superior Global, on sources of anonymity. According to the official, his agency directors and representatives of their partnering agency — William Roberts and Todd — would also attend the daylong workshop.

The master plan, covering 20 years, is on its final stages of compilation and would be in a book form (800-odd pages) covering issues such as infrastructure, development and civic amenity plans for the next 20 years.

The plan is being prepared for Greater Jamshedpur covering areas under four municipal bodies, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Mango Notified Area Committee, Adityapur Notified Area Committee and Jugsalai Municipality. It also covers eight villages in Jamshedpur outskirts.

A brainstorming session would also be conducted at the workshop and suggestions would be invited from members who hail from government departments, railways and corporate houses. Once things are finalised, the plan would be sent for approval of the state urban development department before it is implemented as a policy. Special officer of the Jamshedpur civic body Sunil Kumar believes that the plan would help the city’s “systematic growth”.
