Different strokes at racquet tourney |

Jamshedpur, Aug. 27: Disciplined game at the nets and powerful strokes marked the second day of the 41st Mohun Ahuja Memorial Badminton Tournament at Mohun Ahuja Stadium.
Last year’s runner-up from Ranchi Rahul Kumar entered into the men’s single quarter-final by posting a confident 21-10, 21-10 win over Sunil Choudhary on the second day of 41st Mohan Memorial Badminton Tournament at Mohan Ahuja Stadium today.
Three shuttlers from Ranchi — Mustaque Ali, Sanju Kumar and Mukesh Kumar — also advanced into the last eight stage, along with Jamshedpur’s Amar Jyoti Bose, Bokaro’s Satya Prakash and Prem Kumar of Dhanbad.
Jamshedpur’s emerging shuttlers Jairaj Singh and Varun Singh also slipped into the last eight stage, overcoming stiff resistance from West Singhbhum’s Chandrajeet Jha by scoring 21-13, 12-21, 24-22 and Bokaro’s Prakash Kumar 22-20, 21-14.
Naureen Hera, Shrishti Singh and Shabnam Naaz of Ranchi booked their semi-final berth in the mini girl’s single category. Shagufta Jahoor of Godda defeated Ranchi’s Vaibhawi 21-10, 21-3 whereas Shabnam won against Chandra Kanta Kumari of Latehar 21-1, 21-3.
Vishal Souram and Vaibhav Singh of Jamshedpur entered the quarter-final of the sub-junior boy’s single defeating West Singhbhum’s Vishal Raj 21-12, 21-12 and Akshay Yaduvendra of Koderma 21-18, 21-14.
Safi Akram (Ranchi), Vineet Kumar (Bokaro), Atul Gupta (West Singhbhum) and Pradeep Kumar (Gumla) also advanced into the quarters from this section. Debashruti and A. Jyotika of the steel city entered into the quarter-finals of the sub-junior girl’s single match. The former defeated Naureen Hera of Ranchi 18-21, 21-8 while the latter won 21-4, 21-1 against mini Kumari of Dumka.
