Nitish snubs Soren for playing dirty
PATNA — Desperate to rule Jharkhand and frustrated at RJD leader Lalu Prasad for foiling his dream, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren, in a poltical meeting announced his party’s decision to demand for the inclusion of Jamui and Banka as part of Jharkhand state.
Addressing a meet at Chakai, a tribal dominated block in Naxal infested Jamui district of eastern Bihar, Shibu Soren said he would fight for the people of the region and contest elections from there.
JMM is eying to field five candidates for the Lok Sabha election and 15 for Assembly polls in Jamui, Bhagalpur, Purnea, Kathihar and Saharsa.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today fumed at JMM’s hypothetical demand stating that the region’s people do not dream of joining a “failed” state.
“The purpose for which Jharkhand was created remains unfulfilled,” Kumar said adding that Soren was rejected by people of a particular Assembly constituency and he should not talk on such issues as the welfare of tribals in Jharkhand had not been redressed so far.
“Even after nine years, Jharkhand’s leaders have failed to lead their state towards progress. Jharkhand’s people are now frustrated with the chain of unsuccessful governments and leaders. People of Jamui and Banka, who experienced progress and development under the JD(U) rule, do not wish to be trapped in Jharkhand,” Nitish Kumar said.
“Bihar is much better governed state than Jharkhand in all aspects,” Nitish said.
In Bihar, the population of tribals was only one per cent and they were being given their due rights, he added.
State’s agriculture minister Narendar Singh, who hails from Jamui, his son and Jamui JD(U) MLA, Abhay Singh, BJP’s MLA from Chakai Falguni Yadav also slammed the JMM stand.
“The scenario has changed now and the people don’t want to go to the darker side,” Narender Singh said.
Former JD(U) MP from the seat and former Union external minister Digvijay Singh also condemned Soren’s demand.
Soren declares war on Lalu
After failing to save his post as the chief minister of Jharkhand, Shibu Soren has declared war with RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
Shibu Soren had to resign as the Chief Minister following his loss in the Tamar by-poll.
Although Soren named JMM MLA Champai Soren as the next Chief Minister, his allies Congress, RJD and independent MLAs rejected any such move.
RJD MP from Banka Lok Sabha seat Giridhari Yadav condemned Soren for being dirty. “How dare they blame Lalu Prasad. The people would send his party a fitting reply by not voting. And their dream for a greater Jharkhand would remain just a dream.”
