Lizard beat Bulls in basketball semi-final
Jamshedpur, Feb. 12: JRD Lizard defeated Jharkhand Bulls 43-35 to clinch the basketball title on the penultimate day of the Police-Public Sports Meet being held at JRD Tata Sports Complex.
The former controlled the proceedings with elan scoring points when it required. Jharkhand Bulls tried hard to stay afloat but aggressive play by JRD Lizard, comprising mostly trainees from Tata Steel Basketball Training Centre, snatched the match from them.
In the league matches held earlier, Lizard beat Piston 46-39 while Jamshedpur Sixers drubbed Army Warriors 60-37.
Tata Steel emerged as the volleyball champions, putting it across a determined Volleyball Training Centre 26-24, 25-21 and 25-23 in the summit clash at JRD Tata Sports Complex.
Nirmal High School (Gumla) pocketed the title in women’s hockey by defeating Vijaygiri High School (Tamar) 31-0. Earlier, in the league match at Armoury grounds, Nirmala routed Khunti Toli (Simdega) 3-0 while the latter played a goalless draw versus Vijaygiri in another encounter.
YMH Lodna and Young Heera Nagpur (Sonari) will clash in the final of men’s hockey tournament. Both the teams played aggressively to call the shots in their matches at Armoury grounds. While YMH Lodna defeated Kuchai 2-0 in the semi-final, Young Heera Nagpur posted victory with the same margin against Bhagat XI.
Three teams — JJFT Club (Patamda), DSP (City) XI and DK Sporting Club (MGM) — slipped into the semi-final of men’s football event. The last quarter-final match between Agrico Civic Association and Jamshedpur Police at Gopal Maidan tomorrow will decide the last slot for the semi-final.
While DK Sporting beat Eastern Rock Academy (Jamshedpur) 2-0 in the last eight clash, JJFT posted a confident 2-0 win over Prakhand Parisar Club (Tamar). DSP (City) XI defeated Adityapur Boys’ Club by the same margin.
In women’s football league matches held at Gopal Maidan, Jamshedpur and Jalan Women’s Football Club (Gumla) played a 1-1 draw, Tumgaon Baboli Club (Khunti) defeated Lili Gulab Football Club (Simdega) 3-0. Both the winning teams assured themselves slots in the quarter-final.
