CPM man shot dead

BANKURA, Feb. 9: A CPI-M cadre, Biswanath Digar (45), was shot dead in a village near Ranibandh, Bankura last night.
According to local police, an unidentified person, targetted the victim near his residence.
Local CPI(M) leaders alleged that it was a case of political retaliation and blamed both the Jharkhand Party (Aditya) and the Trinamul Congress for Digar's murder.
Digar used to serve as a cook at the boy’s hostel of a local high school at Deuli Sukla village, about 10 km from Ranibandh. He was the branch committee member of the CPI-M.
He, according to Mr Amio Patra, district secretary, CPI-M, “was an active party member and had been received death threats from Jharkhand Party (Aditya) and the Trinamul Congress, from the time of the panchayat elections.”
Last night, around 10.30 p.m. he returned from a puppet show organised in the village. According to Mr Swapan Digar, his nephew: “One person, not known to me, was looking for my uncle.”
"The person told my uncle to rush to the hostel, claiming that one of the boys had fallen sick. My uncle asked for a minute before he could come along. In the meantime, the person shot at him from a point blank.” Biswanath succumbed within seconds.
The murder sparked off sensation in the Ranibandh villages, which have witnessed the murder of six CPI-M activists in the past seven years.
No one has been arrested yet in this connection.
