Christ Church kid wins spell contest
PATNA: In this age of softwares coming loaded with spell-check facility, one rarely bothers to memorise spellings. Children of city schools,
however, chose to stick to the traditional method of memorising spellings when they came for taking part in the final round of inter-school spelling competition, organized by Phoenix, an event management firm, here on Thursday.
The 34 finalists from eight city schools were selected through intra-school spelling competitions last month. The participants were from class V to VIII.
Chaudhary Zeeshan-Ul-Islam, class VI student of Christ Church School, emerged victorious and was awarded the winners' trophy. He also qualified for the inter-state spelling tournament to be held in Patna sometime in May this year in which winners of spelling competitions of Ranchi and Jamshedpur cities of Jharkhand would also take part.
Three other students who qualified for the inter-state competition are Shruti Singh of Sudharshan Central School, Arunima Singh of Radiant International School and Faraz Ahmed of International School (CBSE).
Phoenix director Naser said his organisation is planning to organize an intra-school spelling tournament for city schools in April this year on a larger scale. In order to make the competitors familiar with tough and unique words, they are given a list of one thousand words from which questions are asked in the competition.
