Tata trashes ‘bias’ slur

Jamshedpur, Nov. 17: Automobile major Tata Motors today clarified its stand on “pro-Marathi” allegations levelled against it by members of Bharatiya Bhojpuri Sangh, an outfit backed by the Bhojpuri speaking population of the city.

“The claims made by Bharatiya Bhojpuri Sangh are rather ludicrous. Tata Motors’ Jamshedpur plant does not have temporary Marathi workers. The temporary workmen are wards of the employees who were trained by the company under the Tata Motors Skill Training Programme,” said Debasis Ray, the head of corporate communications, in a statement from Mumbai.

Tele-meters fail, JSEB claims no loss

Jamshedpur, Nov. 17: Introduced almost a year ago, tele-meters were aimed at giving quick data on meter-reading and also checking power theft. Though the mechanism failed to record power consumption, the board claims to have made no losses.

The tele-meters have failed to bring desired results from as many as 100 industrial units in Adityapur. The latest technology uses SIM cards that are fixed on industrial meters. This helps officials at the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) head-quarters in Ranchi to monitor electricity consumption and meter-reading.

India Considering Industry-Specific Measures to Counter Crunch

Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- India is considering industry- specific steps to help companies counter the impact of a global financial crisis as Asia's third-biggest economy slows.

``We are looking at sectors which require special attention. I am open to adopt fiscal measures depending upon the need of each sector,'' Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said at a press conference in New Delhi today. Import taxes on some steel items and crude soybean oil were reimposed today to protect domestic producers.

Maruti Suzuki To Increase Head Count

(RTTNews) - India's biggest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India is planning to increase its head count and aims a total staff strength of 7,350 by the end of the year, reported PTI.

The company plans to fortify its research and development strength to 1,000 by 2010, the report added quoting Maruti Suzuki India or MSI Managing Executive Officer Administration S Y Siddiqui.

MSI has a head count of 7,200 at present. Impacted by the industry's slowdown, Tata Motors recently disengaged 700 temporary workers at its Jamshedpur plant.

Jamshedpur court seeks clarification on Thackeray warrant

Ranchi: A Jamshedpur court on Monday sought a clarification from Mumbai Police on the execution of its warrant against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, who had been arrested and soon freed on bail in Mumbai on Saturday.

"Judicial Magistrate A K Tewary has sought an execution-of-arrest warrant report from Mumbai Police. The court also rejected Thackeray's petition seeking exemption from personal appearance in the court," Hamid Raza, a lawyer who filed a petition against the MNS chief in the court, said.

Jamshedpur, Nov. 15: Marathi-speaking temporary workers at Tata Motors unit here are the new target of Bharatiya Bhojpuri Sangh, the outfit that vandalised plant head S.B. Borwankar’s house last month.

Bharatiya Bhojpuri Sangh would evolve its strategy on how to take on the temporary workers from Maharashtra at a meeting at D. Road Maidan in Telco township tomorrow.
