Jamshedpur, Jan. 1: BJP legislator of Jamshedpur (west) Sarayu Roy wrote a letter to the chairman of Bank of Baroda asking for an investigation into the alleged irregularities in its Chaibasa branch.
In his letter, Roy has warned to take legal and administrative steps.
The legislator said Indian Diesel and Tractors Private Limited (IDTPL) had procured bank loans in 2006, to the tune of Rs 5 crore in name of farmers to purchase tractors from the Chaibasa branch. However, the company failed to repay the loan that was later declared a none performing asset.
The officials of the bank filed a case against IDTPL in Jharkhand High Court after it detected that the credit was taken on forged documents.
Later, two directors of Amitosh Leasing and Finance Private Limited (ALFPL) Arvind Vyas and Lalit Jain came forward and paid off the entire loan in 2008.
“The bank made an U-turn in the court. It has filed an interlocutory application and prayed before the court to accept their application as an out of court settlement reached between them and bank. Earlier, the same bank had called for CBI probe in this case,” said Roy.
“Why two unknown individual from Mumbai would come forth to pay the loans taken in the name of Chaibasa-based farmers?” said Roy.
In his letter, Roy asked in what capacity the company had offered to purchase the non performing asset of the bank and whether the RBI guidelines were followed in this procedure.
