ABVP protests paralyse lesson plans

Nov. 12: Classes in colleges, schools and an university across the state were disrupted today, as members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) registered their protests against infiltrators from Bangladesh into India.

The protests were a part of a nationwide bandh called by the students’ body.

In Ranchi, activists took to the street and forced schools and colleges to shut gates for the day. Members, carrying posters stating “Detect, delete and deport” visited colleges. They forced Marwari, Doranda, Yogda, Ranchi Women’s, Ramlakhan Singh Yadav and Ranchi Colleges to close for the day.

In Jamshedpur, a group of 100 visited Jamshedpur Women’s College, Jamshedpur Workers’ College, Graduate School College for Women, Abdul Bari Memorial College, Tinplate Mahila College and Jamshedpur Co-operative College, trying to force the management to close gates.

Though they were successful in some places, others continued after members left. “Bangladeshi infiltrators have become a part of the population, illegally. We want to make students aware of the phenomenon so that they, too, can protest against the infiltrators. We want students’ support in our fight,” said Amitabh Senapati, the Kolhan in-charge of ABVP.

The bandh passed off peacefully in Dumka. All schools, including private ones, and colleges remained closed for the day. Sidho Kanhu Murmu University remained paralysed.

A rumoured scuffle among tribal students and ABVP supporters spread tension at local SP College that was, however, brought under control. Tribals protested the supporters’ high-handedness in the matter.

Reports from Sahebganj confirmed that the bandh had a mixed response. ABVP activists took out a rally at Pakur, where demonstrations against illegal migrants have became common.

In Dhanbad, colleges and schools remained closed due. Activists took to the streets in the morning and forced some students to return home. Schools like DAV Public School and Delhi Public School, however, remained open, because of ongoing examinations.
