Adityapur to have Tea farm

Jamshedpur will soon have a tea farm in nearby district Seraikela-Kharswan district.

Seraikela-Kharswan district is famous for many small scale industries specially for the automotive industry. But now, if things go well, it will be known for Tea farming also.

The district horticulture department has begun plantation of 2700 tea saplings in about half hectare area in the government-owned nursery in Seraikela sub division of the district. This is on an experimental basis.

"Presently, we are experimenting. If we achieve success then probably from the next season we would encourage farmers to take up tea plantation for commercial purpose," said Arun Kumar, head, district horticulture department.

The state government has sanctioned Rs 40,500 to the district horticulture department for the plantation exercise while Seed Corporation of India is extending help in providing seeds, and samplings, among other things.

Horticulture department is planning to experiment further with cardamom, cassia, black pepper, clove and cinnamon. The department will seek help of professionals from industry to go ahead if experiment succeeds their expectations.
